Philippians 4:6-7New International Version (NIV)

'“ Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

1.  Please give us a bit of background on who you are and what you do? (what is your backstory/your business)

Since the time I was 12 years old, I knew that I was going to be a counselor; no matter how I tried to look at other fields, everything kept coming back to my natural ability to help people with clear, concise, practical, logical, and compassionate guidance during their storms of life.  My professional experience has taken me from working at behavioral hospitals, non-profits, outpatient clinics, school districts, and in my own full-time private practice.  In addition to my counseling experience, I am also an International speaker and Media Commentator, having given over 250 interviews for TV, radio, Internet, and print media.  During the last five years, I have written five books with numbers six and seven in the works.  Recently, I have added coach to my title because I have found that there is not a significant difference between coaching and counseling; both use many of the same principles, but the delivery is different.  In order to serve the community, I felt that coaching was another way to help people reach their goals.

In 2010, I added an office where my interns could practice because I do not believe that mental health should be a luxury item.  My practice has always stood for professional, ethical, caring, and non-judgmental assistance whose goal is to never keep anyone in treatment one moment longer than what is needed.  We do not want our clients to be dependent upon us, we want to see them learn and practice those skills.

 2.  What inspires and motivates you? What wakes you up every morning, make you get the work done and do it all over again the next day?

A passion to help others live fuller, healthier lives by working through their past or current struggles that are costing them their mental and physical health.  The success rates that are enjoyed by my clients and watching how their lives turn around is beyond motivating to keep me going even through the difficult days.  My success rate, even with some of the most challenging of clients that other professionals have been unable to assist, is at least 87%.

3. How do you differentiate yourself from your competitors? What makes you unique?

While many professionals target only one behavior or action only to have clients go into other unhealthy behaviors, I help you reach your utmost potential by identifying the core issues.  By getting to the core, you reduce the likelihood of needing to go to unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with daily life.  In addition, I have a Masters degree, license, and a State Board that I am held accountable to whether I am offering coaching, counseling, or consulting services.  With twenty years of professional counseling experience in a wide variety of settings and clients, I am able to provide unique insights and proven techniques whether I am training businesses, schools, professionals, or clients.

4. How do you see mental health impacting businesses?

If your employees are stressed out, then there is an increase risk of decreased productivity, mistakes, turn over, and short-term disability claims.  All of those cost your company money and reputation.  Unrecognized mental health issues with staff can cost a business dearly and it is a cost that no business can afford. especially when it can be life-threatening.  Companies that invest in their employees mental health save a significant amount of money during the short and long term; it is an investment that cannot be missed.
